Protocol on protection of Eurasian designs enters into force in two states

The Law on Ratification of the Protocol on Protection of Eurasian Industrial Designs entered into force in Kazakhstan and Russia on December 5, 2020.

Earlier the document has been ratified by Azerbaijan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan.

The Protocol was signed by the state parties to the Eurasian Patent Convention in order to simplify registration of industrial designs. This will help applicants to obtain legal protection on the territory of all contracting states. The advantage of this procedure is the possibility to file one Eurasian application instead of filing separate applications in each state of interest, which significantly reduces the financial expenses and terms of prosecution.

As it was previously informed, registration of Eurasian industrial designs would be possible in the near future. The Protocol will enter into force for the first three countries that have ratified it three months after the third one deposits the instrument of ratification or accession.
