Kazakhstan strengthens intellectual property protection
November 26, 2025
The President of Kazakhstan has signed the Law “On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Intellectual Property Issues.” The document introduces changes to several legislative acts aimed at improving the effectiveness of copyright and related rights regulations, and strengthening the protection for rights holders.
One of the key changes is the expansion of access to published works for people with visual impairments. Such users will now be able to obtain materials in accessible formats without the need to request permission from the author.
In addition, the period for filing an opposition against trademark registration is extended from 1 to 2 months.
The Ministry of Justice will also gain the authority to conduct unscheduled inspections based on requests from authors and rights holders, strengthening oversight of copyright and related rights compliance. Another important step will be the launch of a unified digital platform for collective rights management, which will make the system more transparent and user-friendly.
If you require professional assistance with registering trademarks, copyrights, or other intellectual property in Kazakhstan or any other countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, our firm is ready to support you at every stage and provide full legal assistance.
