Kazakhstan introduces individual fees under the Madrid protocol

On April 7, 2025, the Government of Kazakhstan deposited a formal declaration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) indicating its intention to charge individual fees under Article 8(7)(a) of the Madrid Protocol. This change will take effect from July 7, 2025, and will apply to all international trademark applications, subsequent designations, and renewals that include Kazakhstan.

From the effective date onward, the individual fee for Kazakhstan will be 266 Swiss francs (CHF) for up to three classes of goods or services in an international application or subsequent designation, with CHF 75 payable for each additional class. For collective marks, the fee is set at CHF 493 for up to three classes and CHF 56 for each extra class. Compared to the standard complementary fee of CHF 100, these new individual fees for Kazakhstan represent a significant increase, especially for applications with more than one class.

Upon renewal, the fee for Kazakhstan will be CHF 322 for three classes and CHF 56 for each additional class, regardless of whether it is a regular or collective mark. This renewal fee also replaces the standard complementary renewal fee of CHF 100.
