Matters related to the import of food supplements are regulated by the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan. In accordance with Appendix No. 2 of the Law of Uzbekistan “On Licensing, Permits and Notification Procedures”, food supplements may be used in Uzbekistan only after obtaining an import permit.
Required documents
In order to obtain an import permit for a food supplement, it is necessary to conduct the expertise of samples of the food supplement in the accredited laboratory on the territory of Uzbekistan, in order to prove its safety, quality and effectiveness. - Legalized Power of Attorney from the applicant to the representative;
- Legalized copy of the registration certificate issued by the competent authority of the country of manufacture or Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) on the product;
- Proposed packaging mockups for the market of Uzbekistan;
- Composition and instruction for use of the food supplement (if the product contains parts of plants or living organisms, information on the botanical names of plants or organisms in Latin are required);
- Conclusion on the effectiveness of a food supplement for humans based on experimental-laboratory modeling;
- Conclusion from the accredited laboratory regarding the chemical composition of the product (active substances and excipients);
- Toxicological and hygienic assessment report from the accredited laboratory (with the attached contract and invoice).
The specific quantity of the product samples and scope of documents required for laboratory studies depend on the type of food supplement and are defined based on the laboratory’s request.
Timeframe
In accordance with usual practice, depending on the completeness of the provided materials, scope of documentation, the number of requests from the competent authority, and other factors, the procedure for obtaining an import permit for a food supplement in Uzbekistan may take approximately about 5-8 months, not including a time required to prepare responses to requests (if any).
Validity term and renewal
The import permit for a food supplement in Uzbekistan is valid for five years, after that it will require renewal every five years.
